Hello, motorsports fans! Who has a favorite racetrack? Across the world, hundreds of motorsports races occur on a wide variety of tracks with different shapes, turns, and spectator layouts. When viewed from above, each track is a piece of artwork in itself. How would you like to have a map of your own unique race track?
Race Tracks outputs randomly generated abstract representations of race tracks that mimic the characteristics of real world motorsports venues, including the main track, pit lane, smaller race tracks within the main track interior, grandstands for spectators, parking lots, and additional roads to connect them all (with traffic circles). Features not only include the number of turns and number of grandstands, but also color sets based on real-world motorsports teams and legendary car liveries (please note that color set names are somewhat obfuscated because, you know, lawyers). All of these features are sure to generate a trace track that you'll love.
A few notes about the functionality of this project:
- This artwork was developed using the p5.js library.
- The artwork is scalable across many different sizes of canvas. In addition to scaling upon window resize, different scales can be applied through keystroke inputs:
- 1: scales the artwork to the window height.
- 2: scales the artwork to 2000 x 2000 pixels.
- 3: scales the artwork to 3000 x 3000 pixels.
- 4: scales the artwork to 4000 x 4000 pixels.
- 5: scales the artwork to 5000 x 5000 pixels.
- In addition to keystrokes that scale the artwork, pressing the "s" key will save the artwork locally.
- Grandstands can overlap each other, so the "Number of Grandstands" feature might not align with the number of grandstands you *think* you can count (but, trust me, they are all there!).
- In addition to a variety of pre-selected color sets, there is also a chance to get a completely randomly generated color set!
This is my first project on fx(hash) and I really do hope you like it. If you have any feedback, comments, or suggestions for future projects, please let me know! Thanks for minting!
